About this tool
Once internal marks are declared, the only variable left is the end semester paper. Enter what you scored internally, the maximum for each component and the subject percentage you are aiming at, and the calculator returns the exact end semester score required, warning you when the target has already moved out of reach.
How it works
Using the Marks Needed in Finals Calculator in three steps
Every step below reflects the actual calculation this tool runs, so you can check the result by hand if you need to.
- 1
Enter the internal marks you have already scored and the internal maximum.
- 2
Set the end semester maximum and the subject percentage you want to reach.
- 3
The tool computes the end semester score that closes the gap, and flags the target when even a full paper cannot reach it.
Required end semester marks
Required marks = (Target % x (Internal max + End sem max) / 100) - Internal marks scored- The common split is thirty internal and seventy end semester, but the maximums are editable for other schemes.
- A requirement above the end semester maximum means the target cannot be reached in that subject.
- Subject minimums in the end semester head still apply even when the target is already secured.
Frequently asked questions
What if the required marks exceed the paper maximum?
Then the target is not reachable for that subject and the tool says so. Aim to make up the difference in other subjects of the same semester.
Does clearing the target mean I have passed?
Not automatically. Most universities also set a separate minimum in the end semester head, so you must clear that even if the combined total looks safe.
Can I use this with a fifty fifty scheme?
Yes. Set both maximums to fifty, or to whatever your syllabus prescribes, and the calculation adjusts.
Does this account for a separate end semester minimum?
The calculation targets the combined percentage. Your ordinance may also set a minimum in the end semester head, which you have to clear regardless.
Can I use it before internals are declared?
Yes, by entering an expected internal score. Rerun it once the real marks are out for an accurate requirement.
